As someone with a vagina I know that it can be both a beautiful part of the human body as well as a temperamental piece of work. Vagina owners have to be careful not to throw off their pH and if you’re as sexually active as me you’ve got a lot to be worried about. Being an adult actress means I get the pleasure of having multiple cocks, toys, fingers and mouths in my vagina. That also means I’m more at risk of throwing off my pH, especially with douching. (pH is a measurement of how acidic or alkaline (basic) a substance is. The scale runs from 0 to 14. A pH of less than 7 is considered acidic, and a pH of more than 7 is basic.)
A normal vaginal pH is between 3.8 and 4.5. You can monitor your vaginal health with pH test strips. I recommend Natureland Vaginal Health pH Test Strips. I cannot stress enough to monitor your vaginal health.
That thick white cream you see may be BV! Although it’s normal to have white vaginal discharge some times, it isn’t normal for other symptoms to occur like foul smell or itching. If you are concerned about having BV consult your OB-GYN and ask for a vaginal cultures test. If confirmed that you have BV your OB-GYN will prescribe you antibiotics to treat the infection. I always suggest seeing a regular OB-GYN and getting a pap smear every three years.
Below are ways on how to maintain a healthy vaginal pH:
- Take probiotics to restore the balance
- Eat yogurt. In addition to helping you reach your daily quota of calcium and vitamin D, yogurt is a plentiful source of the beneficial bacterial species of Lactobacillus.
- Use protection during sex if you’re sensitive (I know, boring!)
- Avoid scented products near your vagina
Our vaginas are complicated so treat them right and don’t forget to monitor them frequently!
